ABSTRACT: Frequently but unevenly valued, sor Juana Ines de la Cruz’s (1648-1695) Neptuno alegorico [Allegorical Neptune] has received increased attention in recent years, as though —by virtue of its nature as «ephemeral art»— «that» art (emblematic) had become increasingly more meaningful than the fugacious situation from which it emerged.
